The ParishThe parish of Llanrhwydrys lies on the northern coast of the island county of Anglesey. The parish includes the notable bay of Cemlyn Bay and is accessed by a long narrow lane running west from the A5025 which connects Valley and Amlwch. This is a rather ragged rocky stretch of the Anglesey coast although the bay provides a sheltered anchorage. Cemlyn is today notable for its breeding tern colony which is wardened and protected during the summer months. There is no village as such to the parish merely a scattering of farms across the rough grassland of the area. With its coastal situation the area around the church is barely 10 metres above sea level with low rocky cliffs bordering the sea. Anglesey parishes tend to be smaller than the Welsh average and Llanrhwydrys was typical at only just over 1,100 acres and the population was also sparse with barely 160 parishioners supported. In common with most of Wales the parish is not mentioned in Domesday Book. |
