The ParishThe parish of Hatford lies in northwestern Berkshire, indeed in that part of the county that was transferred to Oxfordshire in 1974. Situated in the Vale of the White Horse Hatford is about 3 miles east of the market town of Faringdon, the small concentration of houses, not large enough to call a village, is sited on the B4508 road. The area is relatively low lying, barely 80 metres above sea level and is largely an arable area with large fields interspersed with ancient copses. Hatford is situated on a small tributary of the river Ock. The parish is of a small acreage - just under 1,00 acres and held a relatively small population of about 120 parishioners. Despite this small size the parish has a long history being mentioned in Domesday book where it held 6 ploughs. |
