The ParishThe parish of Newton Blossomville lies in the extreme northeast of Buckinghamshire, indeed it forms part of the boundary with neighbouring Bedfordshire. Newton Blossomville is a small and linear village built on the south bank of the River Great Ouse about 3 miles east of the small market town of Olney. Newton Blossomville is located on a lane paralleling the Great Ouse and sits a half mile south and across the river from the A428 road which connects Bedford to Northampton. Utilising the river valley and neighbouring hillsides Newton Blossomville would have had a mixed farming regime at the time of this transcript, albeit today arable dominates. The Great Ouse drains the parish eastwards before finally reaching the North Sea through The Wash. Newton Blossomville is sited at around 50 metres above the sea whilst within the parish land rises to its south to almost double that height in gently undulating countryside. Parishes in this corner of the county are rather small and that of Newton Blossomville was typical, it covered just over 900 acres and would have supported a population of just over 250 parishioners. There is no specific mention of Newton Blossomville in Domesday Book. |
