The ParishThe parish of Anderby lies in the extreme east of Lincolnshire, indeed it forms part of Lincolnshire's North Sea coast. Anderby is located about 7 miles north of the large seaside resort of Skegness. Anderby is a long straggle of properties built along a lane leading eastwards to the sea from the A52 road which connects Skegness with Mablethorpe. The area is extremely low-lying, barely above sea level, and much of the local economy, at the time of this transcript, would have been involved in the rearing of cattle on the extensive grazing marshes. Today Anderby has a small seaside location of its own with a "bungalow village" of properties along the shore. Most of the drainage in the area is man-influenced to drain water quickly off the land and out to the North Sea through Anderby Creek. Anderby is sited at just 3 metres above sea level and the land is flat for many miles in all directions. Anderby parish was a fairly typically sized parish for this area, it covered 1,200 acres and would have supported a population of just under 250 parishioners. There is no specific mention of Anderby in Domesday Book. |
