The ParishThe parish of Kirkby Green lies in the southern part of Central Lincolnshire. Kirkby Green is roughly 7 miles north of the market town of Sleaford sited on the B1191 road which connects the A15 through Scopwick to Timberland. Kirkby Green is a small parish often united with Scopwick its larger western neighbour. There is not much of a village to Kirkby Green just a collection of cottages mostly sited around a major bend in the B1191 and along a lane which runs off to the south. The parish is one of many in Lincolnshire which formed where the higher ground of the Wolds runs down to the coastal plain, Kirkby Green is built at just over 10 metres above sea-level and parts of the parish are half that height. This area is mixture of arable, on dryer ground, and pasture although recent years have seen an increasingly arable trend. The parish is relatively small in extent and supported fewer than 100 parishioners. The parish is only mentioned in Domesday Book in conjunction with Scopwick where both were held by the magnificently named Drogo de la Beuvriere. |
