& Wales Hardwicke Marriage Index |
The ParishThe precinct of the Bridewell lies towards the western end of the City of London, fronting the The Thames and covering a small area just west of Blackfriars Bridge. The Precinct was given by the Royal Court of Henry VIII as a hospital for the citizens of the capital and sporadically marriages were performed in the small chapel which was present. All trace of the buildings have been lost over time and the site, immediately west of London Wall is today occupied still by a hospital that of the buildings of St Barts. |
