The ParishThe parish of South Mimms lies in the far north of Middlesex forming an extensive part of the border with neighbouring Hertfordshire into which it protrudes as something of a peninsula of Middlesex territory. South Mimms is located just over 3 miles northwest of the market town of Barnet and sits on the B556 a short road running through to Potters Bar. Bu contrast South Mimms village is a small affair gathered around its B road. South Mimms is drained northwards by the Catharine Bourne making its way join the Colne where direction is reversed and it flows south to the Thames eventually reaching the North Sea through the nation's capital. South Mimms is sited at around 90 metres above the sea in fairly gentle terrain where local heights rise a further 40 metres or so within a couple of miles. South Mimms parish was large in extent, covering close to 6,300 acres it would have supported a population of close to 2,800 parishioners.
