The ParishThe parish of Rolleston lies in east central Nottinghamshire in the valley of the River Trent, Nottinghamshire major river. The parish is roughly 4 miles west of the market town of Newark Upon Trent and a miles south of the A612 road which connects that town to Southwell. The parish has two main settlements, Rolleston itself and Fiskerton which lies 1 mile southwest. Despite it location inland Rolleston is only 14 metres above sea level reflecting the mature state of the Trent and its flood plain. The land use is a mixture of arable on the more elevated land and pastures on the flood plain. The population of the parish is substantial for a village with just over 700 inhabitants. Rolleston has been around for a long time having a mention in Domesday Book where a manor held by Aelfric is held from the Archbishop of York |
