The ParishThe parish of Lullington lies in the extreme east of Somerset quite close to its border with neighbouring Wiltshire. Lullington is located about 3 miles of the market town of Frome, it is an extremely small place not much more than a hamlet. Lullington sits in lanes about a mile and a half west of the A36 road which runs from Bath to Warminster on the western side of the valley of the River Frome. The area would largely have been used for pastoral farming at the time of this transcript. The Frome drains the parish to the north where it meets the Avon to the west of Bradford on Avon and thence the Bristol Channel through the Clifton Gorge. Lullington sits at a height of 70 metres above sea level and the land around is gently undulating to local heights of around 110 metres. Lullington parish sits in an area of Somerset where there are many small parishes, even so it is a small one, it covered less than 700 acres and supported a population of around 140 parishioners. In Domesday times Lullington was held by one Bishop Geoffrey of Coutances and could offer 6 plough, some small meadows and woodlands plus a mill. |
