The ParishThe parish of Patshull lies in southwestern Staffordshire, indeed it forms part of the border with neighbouring Shropshire. The parish is very much dominated by the Hall of the same name, a closed parish with land concentrated in one owner's hands who restricted the population accordingly. There is no village as such to Patshull just the Hall and grounds plus a few farms and cottages. Patshull is roughly 6 miles northwest of the city of Wolverhampton, the parish is situated in a network of lanes to the south of the A464 which branches of the busy A41 and heads for Telford. The Hall and grounds are sited at about 75 metres above sea level and sit in extensively landscaped parkland with ornamental lakes and terraces and elevated stair ways lending an aristocratic air. The parish was small, about 1,700 acres, and supported just over 100 parishioners. Patshull, despite its small size, has been around for a long time, the parish gets a mention in Domesday Book where it mentions a mill and 6 ploughs all owned by Robert of Stafford. |
