The ParishThe parish of Easton Grey lies in the extreme northwest of the county of Wiltshire, the parish forms part of the county boundary with neighbouring Gloucestershire. The village is situated about 3 miles west of the market town of Malmesbury on the B4040 road which links Malmesbury to a string of villages along the valley of the River Avon. Easton Grey is about 100 metres above sea level on the northern slopes of the Avon valley and close to the Roman road "Fosse Way" which cuts southwest to northeast across the landscape. There were clearly Romans in the area as mosaic floors and Samian ware has been recovered from the parish. The parish was small, just over 1000 acres, and the landscape dominated by arable farming although the soils were not exceptional being described as "a stone brash". The parish only supported about 160 parishioners - with the dominant hall probably acting as a brake on population. As befits Easton Grey's long history the village receives a mention in Domesday book having 3 ploughs and being held by Roger Berkeley. |

1 | 15th November 1755 - 14th October 1812 | Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre - Reference - PR115/1/3 | Plain, ruled book containing combined Banns & Marriages | Grade 3 Register - there are sufficient quality issues with this register to indicate that some misreads will occur albeit few in number | Poor handwriting & segregation of entries make for a tricky read and may lead to one or two misreads or omissions |
2 | 5th May 1813 - 17th May 1837 | Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre - Reference - PR115/1/4 | Standard Rose style preprinted and prenumbered Marriage register | Grade 2 Register - not a perfect read but with a low likelihood of misreads | None |
