The ParishThe parish of Dormston lies in eastern Worcestershire close to its border with neighbouring Warwickshire. Dormston lies about 7 miles west of the Warwickshire market town of Alcester in area of lanes to the north of the A422 which connects Worcester to Alcester. There is no defined village as such to Dormston merely a scatter of farms and cottages with a notable concentration around a dog-legged lane near Dormston Manor. Dormston lies in a gently undulating plain to the north of the interestingly name Piddle Brook. The parish is set at about 60 metres above sea level in heavy clay soils. The land use is mainly pasture with small fields interspersed with woodland. The parish is a small one almost 800 acres and supported a low population of around 110 parishioners. In Domesday times the land was held by William Fitzcorbucion on behalf of the church of St Peter of Westminster where it supported 6 plough together with meadow and woodland. |
