The ParishThe parish of Tibberton lies in central Worcestershire about 4 miles northeast of the city of Worcester. Tibberton is a linear village largely built along a lane which runs from north to south and parallel to the A4538 which connects Evesham with Droitwich. Tibberton parish has many modern transport routes running through it, the village is bordered to the north by the Birmingham Canal, the Birmingham to Bristol rail line runs through it as does the modern M5 motorway. Farming would have been the mainstay of the local economy at the time of this transcript, a mixed farming regime with both arable and pastoral schemed, whilst some residents supported their income from the production of gloves for Worcester's gloving industry. Today Tibberton serves as a commuter village with good access to motorway and to Worcester. Many small brooks drain the parish most making their way gently westward to reach the Severn and thence through to the Bristol Channel. Tibberton is sited at around 60 metres above the sea and land is gently undulating at or about that level for many miles. Tibberton parish was of a fairly typical size for a parish in central Worcestershire, it covered just over 1,200 acres and would have supported a population of almost 350 parishioners. In Domesday times Tibberton was held by the Bishop of Worcester, it could offer 22 ploughs, small meadows & woodland as well as 3 mills, a fishery & a salthouse - a prosperous place indeed. |
