Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Barford lies in Central Norfolk some 7 miles
west of the city of Norwich and just north of the B1108 road which links
the city with the market town of Watton. The village lies in a meander
of the River Yare just west of its confluence with the Tiffey a significant
tributary. As its name suggests the village grew up by the crossing of
the Tiffey and spread uphill onto the higher ground to the west. The village
today has a somewhat split personality with much commercial interest along
the B road whereas the main village centre lies to the north on a parallel
minor lane. |

The registers for the period have only been deposited since 2010 and as yet are unfilmed. A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and continues until 1886. This transcript was prepared from the original register held at Norfolk Record Office as a consequence the usual caveats about filming do not apply. The use of the original register allows confidence that this transcript does not contain errors introduced by poor images and was a straightforward transcript to prepare. |
