1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Billingford by Diss St Leonard |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Billingford (the suffix "by Diss"
being added to distinguish it from the other parish of that name which
is in central Norfolk) lies in the extreme south of the county forming
part of the border with neighbouring Suffolk. Billingford, as its suffix
suggests, lies around 3 miles east of the market town of Diss and sits
on the A143 road which connects Diss through to the Suffolk market towns
of Bungay & Beccles. There is little in the way of a village at Billingford,
just a scatter of farms and cottages. Billingford sits on the banks of
the River Waveney which separates the two counties and the valley would
have provided variation in the farming practices with lush pastures supplementing
the normal arable land which dominates the rising ground of the parish. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and runs onward to finish in the early 20th century. A recent deposit, this register is filmed on Microfilm MF/RO698 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. The register has suffered some damage, with the spine and stitching of the binding starting to fail but this doesn't interfere with its legibility. The film is a very recent filming and demonstrates the much improved quality of modern day filmings making for a straightforward piece to prepare. |
