Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Blo Norton lies in southern Norfolk, roughly
midway between the market towns of Diss & Thetford. Blo Norton is
a border parish, forming the border with neighbouring Suffolk and separated
from that county by the infant Little Ouse River. Blo Norton sits in lanes
about a mile south of the A1066 road which parallels the border and the
rivers and southwest of the large village of South Lopham, Blo Norton
sits on what is the rather ill-defined eastern border of The Brecklands.
The area is largely arable, in contrast to scenes further west. Blo Norton
has a rather diffuse settlement, being spread as scattered farms and cottages
over a quite wide area; the presence, in close proximity to the church,
of its hall probably indicates a former estate settlement. |

A single-standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and runs on for a further 7 years beyond it. This register has been filmed twice, Microfilms MF1402 and MFRO502 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. MFRO502, the more recent filming was used to prepare this transcript. The film is of a good standard with clean and crisp images and as a result this was a rather straightforward piece to prepare. |
