1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Bracon Ash St Nicholas |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Bracon Ash sits about 6 miles south-west
of the City of Norwich. The small village is on the B1113 road that links
the city to New Buckenham and Bracon Ash is just beyond the larger village
of Mulbarton. The village, almost nowadays an extension of Mulbarton,
consists of a group of farms and cottages centred on a group of lanes
between two halls, that of Bracon Ash and Mergate Halls. The presence
of Bracon Ash Hall is probably significant in terms of the development
of the village and is perhaps indicative of a mediaeval "closed"
villages where the lord restricted the tenants able to settle. As a consequence
Bracon Ash is dominated by larger settlements nearby. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and indeed continues beyond until 1918. This register is a fairly recent deposit with the county archive and, as such, has been recently filmed on Microfilm MF1650 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The film is an excellent example of modern filming technique with clear and contrasting images. As a result this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped that few errors will have crept into its production. |
