1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Brampton St Peter |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Brampton lies in northeastern Norfolk about
2 miles southeast of the market town of Aylsham. Brampton lies in the
valley of the River Bure in an area crammed with small parishes; two other
parish churches lie within a mile of St Peter's church. Brampton is a
bit of straggle, farms and cottages lie along its main lane which heads
northwards from the former railway station (now a heritage line) towards
the Bure. Brampton is still a very small community and has no obvious
amenities such as shops, pubs etc. Brampton, with its riverside frontage,
had a secondary string to its economic bow, many of the fathers in this
transcript earned a living from the river and transportation of goods
rather than from the land. The parish would have had a mixed farming regime,
grains on the higher ground and pastures on the flood plain. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of the transcript and runs onward to finish in the late 20th century. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1674 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. The film is one of the more modern in the collection and benefits from clean & crisp images, a help with some of the handwriting. Overall, however, this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is hoped few errors will have crept in. |
