Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Colton lies in central Norfolk west of the
city of Norwich by approximately 8 miles. Colton sits just south of the
busy A47 which crosses Norfolk from west to east, the village is spread
along a parallel lane about a mile south of the main road. The village
lies on a ridge of higher land which builds between the Yare and Tud valleys
and which is some 30 metres higher than the valley bottoms (a substantial
height difference in Norfolk). |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of the transcript and indeed continues into the 1930s. This transcribed entries from this register are filmed on Microfiche 1 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. This fiche is rather elderly and suffers from the filming standard, however in almost all cases the entries were sufficiently clear to determine the text. It is possible some errors may have crept in as a result of this poor fiche and the usual troubles with handwriting but on the whole this was a straightforward transcript to prepare. |
