Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Costessey lies immediately west of the city
of Norwich, indeed so close it has now become a suburb of the expanding
city conurbation. In reality Costessey consists of two very different
parts, New Costessey is very much a dormitory settlement for workers in
the city whilst across the small valley of the River Tud lies Old Costessey
the original village and a much more picturesque place indeed. Costessey
village lies in the narrow spit of land that divides the Tud from its
broader partner the River Wensum - they join just east of the village
and head on into the city. The High Street of Costessey wends its way
westwards and northwards around a meander of the Wensum. |

Two standard 800-entry registers cover the period of the transcript, the second continuing well beyond the transcript closing period until the mid-20th Century. These register are filmed on Microfiche 6 - 8 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The fiche are rather elderly and the images are not great to read, there was much reference to the far superior quality of image held on Familysearch and as a result a straightforward transcript was achieved despite unpromising material. It is to be hoped few errors will have crept into the transcript. |
