Baptisms 1813 to 1880
Cromer is a substantial seaside town on the northeast
coast of Norfolk. Once a substantial fishing port the town has evolved
over the years into a classic English seaside resort, in particular with
the coming of the railways to the town. The town is perched on low sandy
cliffs above extensive promenades and with a characterful pier. Cromer
has become a favourite retirement home with its fine sea views, pleasant
walks and excellent transport links, in summer the residents' numbers
are swelled with day trippers. |

Two large 1600-entry register books cover the period of this transcript. The first covering 1813 to 1859, the second continuing to the end of the transcript period and indeed onwards to 1898. The books are filmed on microfiche 6 to 10 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The fiche are, unfortunately, rather elderly and of a poor quality, the first register has been refilmed on Microfilm MFRO382 which is a little clearer. However, the images were so poor that much reference has been made to the images of the register held on the LDS Familysearch site which are much clearer. As a result this was a straightforward if lengthy production and it is to be hoped that few errors will have crept into the transcript, handwriting is, however, subject to the usual caveats. |
