Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Crostwick lies roughly 5 miles north of
the city of Norwich and sits astride the B1150 which connects the city
with North Walsham. There is not much to modern Crostwick, its most obvious
feature being a strip of properties running northwards along the B1150
from the church to the small stream (a tributary of the Bure) which crosses
it. Crostwick was always a small parish, it covered only 700 acres and
held a population of fewer than 150 folk; the adjacent parishes of Horstead,
Frettenham, Spixworth & Rackheath crowd around. The area is almost
totally dominated by arable agriculture and was perhaps always so. Today
a few properties are spreading over the hill from the developments at
Spixworth but Crostwick remains a small community. |

A single standard 800 entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but continued to completion only in 2002. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1652 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. The film is one of the recent and vastly improved set with crisp and clear images; as a result this was a fairly straightforward piece to prepare with only the usual handwriting grumbles to mention. |
