1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Downham Market United Methodist Circuit |
Baptisms 1850 to 1880
The United Methodist Circuit covering the Fenland district of West Norfolk was founded in 1850. The records of the church are deposited in a single register book which covers 1850 to 1899 and is filmed on Microfilm MF1778 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript is prepared. The film is a very recent production and is of excellent quality with clear and contrasting images. The usual caveat applies regarding Non-Conformist registers namely there are some curious hands and spellings (which are transcribed verbatim). The records here are sorted into date sequence for ease the numbering represents the actual entry number in the book. It is necessary to document that the ordering is decidedly odd - the initial clerk divided the book into sections for each parish in the circuit but left equal space for each, as a consequence some major parishes (notably Downham Market itself) spread through the early entries for other parishes. |
