1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Foulsham Holy Innocents |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Foulsham lies in eastern central Norfolk
about midway between the city of Norwich and the market town of Fakenham
and alongside the A1067 road which connects them, albeit Foulsham sits
about a mile to its north. Foulsham is a large village, formerly itself
a market town which is largely built around a crossroads of lanes, the
village retains all of its many facilities and is still a substantial
one today. Foulsham suffered a major disaster in 1770 as a fire largely
destroyed most of the buildings and severely damaged Holy Innocents church
too. The village centre was, therefore, rebuilt almost as a set piece
immediately after that event. Foulsham sits in a slight dip in the rather
flat plateau like landscape hereabouts where a small tributary of the
River Wensum has cut a shallow course, all around are large arable fields.
Foulsham is still large enough to have attracted some light industry and
thus escapes the commuter fate of many of Norfolk's villages. |

Three standard 800-entry register books cover the period of this transcript. The first runs from 1813 to 1845, the second from 1846 to 1877 and the third runs into the early 20th century. All three registers are filmed on Microfilm MF979 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and these were used to prepare this transcript. Whilst this film is not one of the more modern films it is adequate to the task and as a result this was a relatively straightforward transcript to prepare, hopefully few errors will have been committed in its preparation. |
