1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Garboldisham St John The Baptist |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Garboldisham is situated in the south of
Norfolk, indeed it forms part of the border with neighbouring Suffolk,
the village being just north of the River Little Ouse which forms Norfolk's
southern border. Garboldisham is sited on the busy A1066 road which links
the market towns of Thetford and Diss, the village being roughly midway
between the two. Most of the village is away from the main road with houses
clustered along the B1111 to north and south of its crossroads. Garboldisham
is a substantial village with most of its essential facilities still present. |

Two standard registers cover the period of the transcript, the first an 800-entry register running up to 1848 is filmed on Microfilm MFRO249, the second a 1600-entry register runs past the end of the project period into the 10th century and is filmed on Microfilm MF1406 both films in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. The films are both relatively modern and of the better quality achievable in recent times. As a result the only caveat that can be justified is that the handwriting occasionally presented challenges; otherwise this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped few errors will have crept in. |
