Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Gresham sits in north-east Norfolk close
to the North Sea coast but inland of the twin seaside resorts of Sheringham
& Cromer. The parish sits in the lanes south of the main route across
north Borfolk, the A148. The village has two distinct clusters of settlement,
one on higher ground to the west of the church and a second in a shallow
valley to the east. These two centres are joined by an east-west running
lane. |

The parish registers for Gresham were an early
deposit and consequently they are filmed on Microfiche, numbers 6 and 7
from which this transcript was prepared. This series was filmed in the late
1980s and is not to the standard which is achieved today. The images are
faint and faded with poor contrast, however in general the register must
have been well-preserved as most entries are reasonably readable. Despite the poor fiche an adequate transcript can be extracted and despite the occasional aberrant hand this was a farly straight-forward transcript to prepare and it is hoped few errors will have crept into its compilation. |
