1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Holme next the sea St Mary |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Holme next the sea is located in the extreme
northwest of Norfolk forming the coast at the point where the Wash commences.
Holme next the sea is a coastal village which is sited adjacent to the
busy A14 coast road, most of the village lies between this road and the
sea although a strip has formed alongside the main road. Holme next the
sea is about 2 1/2 miles northeast of the busy seaside resort of Hunstanton
and 13 miles west of the port of Wells next the sea. Holme next the sea
is a curious mixture, it is hidden from the sea by grazing marshes and
coastal dunes which are an important nature conservation area, yet is
most popular for its extensive beach and coastal walking. The village
forms the northwestern end of Norfolk's ancient walking route, Peddars
Way, and is also an important staging point on the coastal footpath. Holme
next the sea is a compact village with most housing concentrated on the
two northward running lanes and the one which connects them, here too
are the village amenities of shops, pub and church, all this sits aloof
from the coastal car park and beach. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers the period of the transcript and extends up to the early 20th century. This register is filmed on Microfiche 4 & 5 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office which were used to prepare this transcript. These fiche are, to be polite, rather elderly and have poor images lacking clarity and contrast. Fortunately copies of these images are available to view of Familysearch and much reference was made to the better quality images to ensure accuracy. Thanks to this facility this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped few errors will have crept in. |
