Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Ingworth lies in northeastern Norfolk about
2 miles north of the market town of Aylsham. Ingworth is a small and linear
village sitting on the former route of the A140 road connecting the city
of Norwich with the northern coastal seaside resort of Cromer; fortunately
for both Ingworth and also Aylsham that road is now bypassed to the east.
Ingworth sits on the eastern banks of the River Bure, spreading northwards
from the bridge. As a riverside community Ingworth would have varied the
normal arable-based economy with a degree of pastoral farming on the river's
floodplain as well as involvement in river-based movement of goods, in
particular grain using the Norfolk Wherries. Today Ingworth is still a
sleepy place, devoid of the once heavy traffic passing through. Ingworth
parish was one of a number of rather small parishes in this area - it
covered little more than 500 acres. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onward to completion in the early 21st century such was the small size of the parish's population. This register is filmed on Microfilm MFRO661 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. The film is one of the more recent productions and benefits from the crisp and contrasting images available from today's techniques making for a straightforward piece to prepare. |
