1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Langham St Andrew & St Mary |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Langham lies in northern Norfolk just inland
from the north coast, the village sits a couple of miles southwest of
the port of Blakeney on the hills behind the coastal fringe. Langham village
sits just west of a bend in the B1156 minor road which connects Blakeney
with the busy A149 near Holt. The village is centered on a crossroads,
ironically not that of the B-road but of some lanes a quarter of a mile
west. The village is nucleated with settlement gathered tightly around
the church and crossroads. Although close to the coast these hills, high
for Norfolk, mean Langham is over 40 metres above sea level with fine
views down to the coastal marshes yet safe from the rising seas, as a
result it is fast becoming a desirable second-home village with consequences
for the local population as house prices soar. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period and rather conveniently was finished coincident with the projects terminal date. This register is filmed on Microfiche 4 & 5 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The fiche are frankly rather elderly and carry images of a relatively poor quality. However, as a result of duplicate (and superior) images being placed on the Familysearch web-site which are much clearer this was a relatively straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped that few errors will have crept into its construction. |
