Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of West Lynn lies in western Norfolk, the little
neighbour to the port of King's Lynn which sits across on the western
bank of the Great Ouse. West Lynn sits about a mile north of the busy
A17 road and is accessed by a lane running through the village from the
former route of that road on its way to Clenchwarton. West Lynn is connected
with King's Lynn by a ferry service which allegedly has been running continuously
since 1285. Despite its proximity to the port West Lynn had an economy
largely based on agriculture, largely pastoral at the time of this transcript
and today mainly high-value vegetable production. Compared to its neighbour
West Lynn has a quiet ambiance which today attracts commuters not deterred
by the often crowded road access to King's Lynn. |

Two standard 800-entry register books cover the period of this transcript. The first, running from 1813 to 1859, is filmed on Microfilm MFRO242, the second, which continues onward to 1915, is on fiche Nos 6 & 7 but was transcribed from online images at Familysearch as they are of superior quality to the elderly fiche copies. The standard of clerical work was rather poor with many entries missing part of the dates, numerous out-of-sequence and marginal entries and general scruffiness making a likelihood that some misreads may have been made. |
