Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Marlingford lies in the eastern part of
central Norfolk about 7 miles west of the city of Norwich. Marlingford
sits on the banks of the River Yare just north of the B1108 road which
links Norwich to Watton. Marlingford is not a compact village, it is spread
over a broad triangle of lanes mainly on higher ground above flood levels
in a meander of the river. As its name suggests its origins lie in the
river crossing, nowadays a bridge with a former mill, that forded the
Yare at this point. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of the transcript and extends into the mid 20th century. This register is filmed on Microfiche 6 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. This register has suffered from water damage (perhaps from the early 1912 flood) and the fiche is also rather elderly as a consequence legibility is poor. Fortunately images for this register are also available to view on Familysearch which helped in clarifying some entries, there was also much reference to extant Bishops Transcripts to complete this parish. With the combination of sources it was possible to cover the whole period although it is acknowledged that some errors may be present due to misreads. |
