1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Mattishall & East Dereham Independents |
Baptisms 1813 to 1837
The register which forms the basis for this transcript was one of many deposited with The National Archives following the introduction of the state birth registration system. This act asked for all non-conformist registers to be closed and centrally deposited. This small register from the Independent Congregation covered the district of central Norfolk with its principal centres in East Dereham and Mattishall but covering many parishes adjacent. The register, piece RG4/1259, is filmed by TNA and a copy is held by the Norfolk Record Office on Microfilm MF1151 in their collection and from which this transcript was prepared. The register is relatively well written and the filming is adequate to the task with slightly faded images lacking the clarity of more recent films. On the whole this was a relatively straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped few errors will have crept into its production. The numbering given in this transcript is the sequence within the register as all entries were simply handwritten in a book with no inherent numbering included, this is added as a finding aide. |
