1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Merton St Peter |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Merton sits in central western Norfolk,
just south-west of the market town of Watton and to the west of the A1075
linking Watton with Thetford. The parish consists of a small scatter of
farms and cottages along the lanes skirting the estate of Merton Hall.
The parish is adjacent to the swathe of poor quality land in Breckland
and nowadays is bordered by the Army ranges of the Stanford Battle Area.
The Peddars Way path passes along the western edge of the parish. |

The baptismal register for the period covered
by the project has yet to be deposited with the Norfolk Record Office, as
a result this transcript was prepared from the collection of Bishop's Transcripts
which, for once, represent a clear and complete series. A strong caveat
is, however, issued against the quality of the images for these records
with many, in particular the later records, of very poor quality. As a result
a degree of guesswork has had to be applied in reading and it is fully feasible
that errors may occur in this transcript as a result. If the register is eventually available for consultation then the transcript will be rechecked and corrected for any errors so found. |
