Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Necton lies in central Norfolk. The village
is just off the main A47 road between Norwich & King's Lynn and a
few miles east of the market town of Swaffham. The village is substantial
with most facilities still remaining and a well-defined centre. The village
is just a half-mile south of the busy A47 yet is a peaceful spot; most
houses are built along two major lanes one north-south the other heading
east from the village centre and church. |

The period of this transcript is covered by
two deposited registers. The first a standard 800-entry book covers 1813
to 1837, the second a larger 1600-entry book continues beyond this transcript's
period till 1912. Both are filmed and are covered by microfiche 7 to 10
in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript
was prepared. Sadly the fiche for this period are of a rather poor quality with faded images and poor contrast. Much reference was required to the extant Bishop's Transcripts to find a readable copy of many entries. Some were faded almost to the point of invisibility and whilst in all cases enough was visible to make a good guess as to the correct entry unfortunately this may lead to some inadvertent errors. As a consequence of this poor source material and the usual challenges from handwriting this transcript was not an easy one to prepare and come with a heavy caveat that errors may have occurred in its compilation - it is hoped these are few. |
