Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of St Etheldreda in Norwich lies in the south-eastern
portion of the mediaeval city, on King Street and adjacent areas south
of the River Wensum. This area, known as Conesford was dominated by the
wharfs and warehouses of the former port of Norwich. The parish was always
small and with a population of fewer than 300 in 1831 was a very small
portion of the city population. Nowadays this is a regenerating area being
reclaimed for homes from the industry that dominated in the 19th and 20th
centuries. |

A single standard 800-entry register book comprises the deposited records covering the period of this transcript. This register book is filmed on Microfiche 7 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The fiche is an elderly filming and suffers from the standards of its day being in places faint and lacking in contrast. The standard of handwriting also varies wildly through the period with some beautiful hands and others rather testing. Despite these deficiencies this was a relatively straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped that few errors will have crept into its production. |
