Baptisms 1813 to 1880
St Saviour's parish in Norwich lies in the portion of
the city known as Norwich-over-the-Water in other words north of the River
Wensum which winds through the city. The parish is centred on Magdalen
Street which historically was the major northward street in the mediaeval
city. Like all Norwich parishes it was compact and crowded. Nowadays the
area is something of a backwater for the city and is blemished by the
Inner Ring-road Fly-over which crosses it. |

The period covered by this transcript consists
of three register books. The first is filmed on Microfilm MFRO323B, the
second and third are filmed on microfiche 16 to 18 all in the collection
of the Norfolk Record Office. The first film is of reasonable quality with
good contrasty images, the microfiche are an elderly filming with faded
weak images and in places they are faded to barely legible. In addition to the poor state of the filming the parish was not blessed with the neatest of writers and there are periods when deciphering the hand-writing was decidedly challenging. Given these factors it is to be expected that some errors may be present in this transcript. |
