1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Quidenham St Andrew |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Quidenham lies in southern Norfolk, just
a couple of miles east of the village of East Harling and south of the
main A11 Norwich to London road. The parish is tiny with only a small
group of houses clustered around a road junction. These properties lies
just outside the grounds of Quidenham Hall, built in 1606 for the Holland
family. This betrays the churches former role as an estate church in a
closed village. St Andrew's church is old for Norfolk. The tower is of the 11th century and much of the nave seems to be 12th century in origin. The spired tower is also rather unusual in Norfolk where spires are something of a rarity. The church stands by the road junction where the roads split to East Harling and Kenninghall. The peaceful site is normally rather tranquil although this is marred on race-days at the nearby Snetterton motor racing circuit! |

The register, a single 800 entry book covering 1813 to 2006, from which this transcript was prepared is a very recent (2008) deposit and is filmed on Microfilm MF/RO708. This film is of excellent quality with clear and crisp images with the entries displayed as well as any in the collection. As a consequence the only impediment to an accurate transcript is the hand-writing of the incumbent and the almost inevitable typo. It is to be hoped that few such errors have crept in to this straightforward transcript. |
