1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Repps with Bastwick St Peter & St Paul |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Repps (incorporating the hamlet of Bastwick)
lies in eastern Norfolk, the twin settlements are close to the A149 main
coastal road linking Great Yarmouth to Cromer. Bastwick lies on the A149,
Repps just a half mile west. The parish forms the southern bank of the
River Thurne, one of the main rivers of Norfolk's Broadland. The parish
is barely above sea level, the majority of the land being water-logged
pastures. The Thurne seems almost to be raised above the land level especially
when tall-masted yachts are passing along the river. The settlements prefer
to keep their feet dry being based a few feet above the flood plain on
the northern edge of the ancient island of Flegg. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the whole of the transcript period and, indeed, continues through to 1938. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF/RO660 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The film is an extremely recent one and benefits from the improvements in quality attainable nowadays. The images are clear and contrasting and as such, subject to the usual caveat regarding handwriting, this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped few errors will have crept into its production. |
