1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Roudham St Andrew |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Roudham lies in southern Norfolk not too
far from the border with neighbouring Suffolk. Roudham is located about
6 miles northeast of the market town of Thetford and sits just south of
both the busy A11 (Norwich to London) road and the Norwich to Thetford
rail line. There is very little to Roudham, no village as such, just a
scatter of farms and cottages across the heath of this Breckland area.
The inhabitants of the parish would have largely earned their incomes
from farming chiefly sheep and rabbits, the poor soil being light and
sandy does not make for arable farming. Today the area is dotted with
piggeries whilst arable farming is achieved by extensive irrigation and
application of fertilisers. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers the period of this transcript and was closed incomplete in 1888. The register is notable for having an unexplained gap between 1837 and 1840 where several unused entries are present. This register is filmed on Microfiche 2 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office but better quality imagery is available not only freely on Familysearch but also for subscribers on the commercial web sites. As a result this short register was relatively straightforward to prepare. |
