Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Salhouse lies just northeast of the city
of Norwich. Salhouse (or Sallowes as it was frequently spelt in the past
and more indicative of its origins) is about 5 miles northeast along a
minor road which heads from Norwich towards Acle. The village today is
a busy commuter village with housing clustered around the principal junctions,
with the road from Norwich and a parallel lane to Woodbastwick. The village
has retained all its useful services of shop, pub etc. and is even connected
by rail to the city having a station on the Norwich to Sheringham line. |

Two standard 800-entry register books cover the period of the transcript. The first running to 1865, the second continues into modern times finishing just prior to World War II. The first book is filmed on Microfilm MF592, the second on MFRO703, both in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. Whilst the first film is elderly and suffers from poor images, the second film is more modern and has excellent clear and contrasting images. Unfortunately it must be said that Salhouse has suffered from a succession of poor handwriters, as a result this transcript carries a qualification in that this may have resulted in misreading of the entry and 100% accuracy is not as a result guaranteed. |
