Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Shotesham St Mary lies in southern
Norfolk, one of two parishes ancient to the present village of
Shotesham. The village lies about 6 miles due south of the city
of Norwich and just a couple of miles east of the A140 which
connects the city to Ipswich. Shotesham St Mary was the lesser
of the two parishes and covered the area to the south-west of
the present day village towards Saxlingham Nethergate. The
parish is centred around the "Old Hall" and is perhaps
indicative of a closed parish with access restricted by the
local lord. |

This transcript was
originally prepared from the Bisophs' Transcripts which were of a
poor quality and contained a missing year of 3 records. The parish
has since deposited its baptismal register covering the transcript
period and the original register was thus used to re-prepare the
transcript corrected the many mis-reads and completing the small
omission |
