Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Shropham lies in southern Norfolk, the parish
is to the north-west of the main A11 road from Norwich to London and also
south-west of the market town of Attleborough Today's village is clustered
around the most significant crossroads with houses stretching mainly east
to west along this road. To the east of the village lies a series of watercourse
and fens which mark the upper reaches of the River Thet. |

The registers which form the transcript were
deposited in two distinct periods. The first, which is filmed on Microfiche
3 and 4, the second much more recently is filmed on Microfilm MF1629. The
earlier register is typical of the microfiche filmed at that date with poor
images which are faint and often faded almost to invisibility; indeed several
entries had to be verified against the extant Bishop's Transcripts in order
to arrive at a complete transcription. By contrast the second filming is
bright, contrasting and easy to read. One word of warning is attached to this transcript, Shropham parish seemed to receive more than their fair share of eccentric hand-writers; there is a definite health warning regarding this transcript - at times the hand was so bad that errors are likely to have been incurred due to misreads. |
