Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The tiny parish of Southwood lies in eastern Norfolk just
north of the valley of the River Yare. Southwood is about 4 miles south
of the village of Acle and 8 miles west of the port of Great Yarmouth.
Southwood was always a tiny parish, hemmed in by Limpenhoe & Freethorpe
it barely supported a population of 50 souls. There is no village of Southwood,
it's just an area with a few farms and cottages surrounding its eponymous
Hall. The parish is sited just off the flood plain of the River Yare in
an intensively agricultural area, farming would have dominated the lives
of the men in this transcript. |

The registers for baptisms covering the period of the transcript has yet to be deposited, however it was loaned long enough to be filmed. Images of this register are available to view on the web site Family Search and these images were used to prepare this short transcript. The images are of an adequate quality and the handwriting is mostly acceptable. As a consequence this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is to be hoped few errors will have crept in. |
