1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Stiffkey St John |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
Stiffkey parish lies on the
picturesque north coast of Norfolk, between Blakeney and Wells-next-the-Sea,
a pretty narrow streeted village much popular with vistiors and in particular
sailors and bird-watchers alike. The main A149 coast-road winds through
the cramped confines of the flint-knapped houses. The village is also
confined between the water meadows of the River Stiffkey to the south
and the salt marshes of the North Sea coast to its north. |

These records were transcribed from two sources
in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. The first register covering
1813 to 1865 was microfilmed on fiche 5 & 6. The remainder of the records
were collected from the annual Bishop's Transcripts, although sadly there
is not a complete run. There are gaps covering the latter half of 1873 and
all of 1875 totalling around 16 entries. It is intended these records will
be added when the second baptism register is deposited. The microfiche are quite an old filming but despite this they were fairly clear and the entries at least with sufficient contrast to read. Sadly the same cannot be said for the BTs which are, like most deposits, faint and with bleed-through of the ink making the entry difficult to decipher. In consequence it is likely that errors may have crept in to the latter third of this transcript. |
