1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Syderstone St Mary |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Syderstone lies in north Norfolk about 5
miles west of the market town of Fakenham. Syderstone is located just
east of the B1464 road which connects Docking with the Fakenham to King's
Lynn road. Syderstone is a compact village built around a junction of
lanes with most housing lying along the main east to west running lane
or that which turns south from it. The area is a broad plateau with rather
poor soils for Norfolk and much heathland has grown upon what would have
been sheep range or warrenries. Syderstone Common, to the south of the
village is a maze of woodland, heath and small sand quarries, parts are
now a nature reserve. |

Two standard 800-entry register books cover the period of this transcript. The first register covering 1813 to 1874 is filmed on Microfiche 6 & 7 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office, the images are also available on the free web site Familysearch and these were used to prepare this transcript as they are much clearer than the rather elderly fiche. The second register has yet to be deposited and consequently these entries have been drawn from the extant Bishop's Transcripts. As is common these documents have suffered over the years from poor storage and the images are not the best but they are readable with care. Hopefully through this combination of sources few errors will have been introduced by the transcriber. |
