1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Thorpe Hamlet St Matthew |
Baptisms 1851 to 1880
The parish of Thorpe Hamlet was created in 1851 from the
parish of Thorpe St Andrew. This need arose as the result of the expansion
of the city of Norwich across the River Wensum to the east following the
creation of suburbs on the steeply sloping eastern side of the valley.
Swathes of terraced housing were built to house the rapidly increasing
population and the area found favour with the workers on the newly arrived
railway at Thorpe Station. The area is now an integral part of the city
of Norwich. |

This transcript was prepared from microfiche
1 to 3 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. The filming was clear
for the most part although sections are faded and caused a little difficulty.
The parish was, however, not favoured by great hand-writers and there are major diffculties in some periods with quite difficult hands. Despite these difficulties every effort has been made to obtain a good interpretation, however on this occasion there is a strong possibility that error from mis-reading of hand-writing may have occurred. It is to be hoped this is not a major problem. |
