1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Thuxton St Paul |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Thuxton lies in eastern central Norfolk
about 5 miles southeast of the market town of East Dereham. Thuxton is
a tiny place, little more than a hamlet with a scatter of farms and cottages
either side of its halt on the heritage rail line of the Mid-Norfolk Railway
from East Dereham to Wymondham. Thuxton sits just off, to the east, the
B1135 which connects those two towns. Thuxton sits on a fairly level plain
amongst the headwaters of the infant River Yare and would have been almost
totally devoted to arable farming, as it still is today. The parish was
also small, in an area of small parishes, covering just over 1,000 acres
and with a half dozen other churches within 3 miles it had a tiny congregation
of barely 100 folk too. |

A single standard 800-entry register book covers not only the period of this transcript but runs onward up to the start of the 21st century reflecting the low incidence of baptisms in this small congregation. This register, only recently deposited, is filmed on Microfilm MFRO776 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. A modern film with clear and crisp images making for a relatively straightforward read. |
