1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Tilney St Lawrence |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Tilney St lawrence lies in western Norfolk
in the Fenland midway between King's Lynn and Wisbech. The village centre
lies to the south of the A47 road and merges nowadays with the neighbouring
village of Terrington St John. Most of the village lies either side of
the minor road linking the A47 with the Wiggenhalls. The area is very
low-lying being merely 3 metres above sea level. The parish lands are
rich soil and there is much agriculture and market gardening. |

The records from which this transcript was
produced consist of 3 register books, the first 2 are filmed on MF476, the
remaining few entries come from a later deposit filmed on MF1414. All three
books are physically deposited at the Wisbech Fenland Museum rather than
in Norfolk Record Office. Despite the early filming of the majority of the
entries the quality of image is adequate to the task. In general the handwriting
is also good but shows a marked deterioration towards the end of the period
transcribed; that of the 1870s in particularly being very difficult to read
at times. Despite this caveat the whole represents a reasonably straightforward set of records to transcribe and it is to hoped that few errors will have crept in to its compilation. |
