Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Upton lies in eastern Norfolk about 9 miles
east of the city of Norfolk and just north of the village of Acle. Upton
is a river settlement tucked away down a lane in a bend of the River Bure.
The village lies just on the fen edge, a couple of metres above flood
level but close enough to the source of its former livelihood - the grazing
and wildfowling marshes. The village is compact and centered around a
crossroads of lanes north-south and east-west where the village pub offers
the community sustenance. |

Two standard 800-entry register books cover the period of the transcript. The second volume continues to modern times beyond the end of the transcript coverage. Both volumes are filmed on Microfiche - fiche 7 - 9 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. Sadly these fiche are rather elderly and the images are faint and hazy. However the records must have been well preserved as legibility was acceptable despite the deficiencies. As a result this was a straightforward transcript to prepare and it is hoped few errors will have crept in as a result of misreads or typos. |
