Baptisms 1813 to 1880
West Walton is the most westerly
of all the parishes in Norfolk, lying just to the east of the River Nene
which here marks the border with Cambridgeshire. The village lies north
of the A47 and south of the A17, the two main east-west traffic arteries
of the Fens. Today the village is a peaceful suburb of the Cambridgeshire
market town that is Wisbech. |

The parish records transcribed here are in
three registers, the first two were transcribed from microfilm MF530 in
the collection of the Norfolk Record Office, the third register was transcribed
from the un-filmed original register held at the Fenland Museum in Wisbech
- with thanks to the curator for granting access. The filmed record is poor in quality with a feint positive image which at times fades to almost illegible. Much checking with deposited Bishop's Transcripts was required to ensure that an interpretation could at least be made for some entries. Whilst every effort has been made to keep errors to a minimum it can be expected that some error will have occurred in this part of the transcript. The third ledger coming from original source is obviously superior to filmed events. The standard of hand-writing in such an extensive transcript is also subject to caveat. The best efforts have been made to make this transcript as accurate as possible but error cannot be ruled out on this occasion. |
